I too had the same problem as I had installed flashplayer as described above and worked until I upgraded to 2009 then tried to install as above and I kept getting the error
WARNING: Please enter a valid installation path.
I tried /mozilla, /firefox-3.0.3, /plugins ect. with no luck.
As a last result I downloaded the .rpm instead of the tar and ran it through the installer and BINGO, got flash at browser restart.

(i've also tried to install flash player 9 but give me the same error)

when i'm installing it, ask me for the path of mi explorer.. i'll try the default path (/usr/lib/mozilla) and give me the warning... then i'll try with the other path (/usr/lib/firefox-3.0.3) which is the real path 'cause i can open a firefox browser from there (double clickin' on the firefox executable icon

I have tried the above mentioned steps on my mandriva distro, but the problem occurred while running the installation script, it says that my architecture "x86_64" is not supported by the installer. Any help on how to install flash player for this architecture?

 #

I have heard that is one of the problems when using x86_64, and maybe if you are going to use you PC as Desktop is better to go to i386, if you are going to use it as a Server install a x86_64 version, as the server applications support that architecture, and you will the most of your hardware.
That is just my opinion, and I may be wrong!

Why can't firefox autodetect the missing plugin and install it like it does on Ubuntu?

 #

That is something I also wonder, I think Debian also autodetect, but it doesn't work with Mandriva.
