Hello, my name is Allen. I am 34 years old, and I live in Connecticut, USA.
I've been using Linux on and off in one form or another for about 5 years, but still consider myself a "newbie"
I'm a former Broadband Communications technician, now I am an office manager, which gives me more free time to experiment.
I currently run Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10 on a P4 3Ghz with 2GB Memory,
at work I run Kubuntu on and older Dell PIII.
I have a base install of Debian on a Linksys NSLU2 (slug) that I'm using as a Samba server and NAS for now.
I look forward to sharing experiences with this new group!

I am an older fellow - retired now on medical disability - who spent nearly 3 decades with IBM in IT. My first personal computer was a .286 and I'vs had a few new ones at each shift in processor generations. I like the fast laptops of today and am currently teaching people how to really understand, use and profit from the powerful features in 32 and 64-bit Vista.
I have been scouting and evaluating as many different distributions of Linux as I have been able to acquire ISO images of over the last 20 months. I put them through some fairly rigorous tests and have found a few that are truly ready to recruit the average Windows user to their distribution while (I hate to say this) others are not there yet.
I currently have 3 laptops running various operating systems and have one dedicated to testing the beta of Windows 7 for Microsoft. I hope to be able to share what I have learned over the last while about Windows and Linux and hope to learn from all who care to tutor me.
