Hi,

I have started a poll and a discussion today here about which Distro you prefer to use, and why, also which ones you have already tested.

Tell us your experiences, using Linux.

I will run the poll till the end of the month, please participate and post your opinion in the forum about your preferred Linux Distribution or maybe you have more than one.

Hope to see your opinion.

I spent hours trying to configure the live cd to execute GNOME. I downloaded every library with Gnome in it's name and description and every application the same. I got it to work, until I asked for compiz or beryl. Then, for all users, I lost the windows header. (no maximize, minimize, option buttons etc. And after trying to backout from compiz, I gave up and reinstalled. Now other problems arose.

I was very much in like with PClinuxOS, but I do not prefer KDE, simply because my grandchildren will not accept it. They are familiar with Gnome.

So, my favourite distribution is Fedora, and tied for second is UBUNTU and PCLinuxOS.

PS. I did come across the Gnome version of PCLINUXOS, but then sound did not work. Sound worked just fine in the KDE version. So, PCLINUXOS needs some beefing up for bugs that spoil the pleasure.

Its not the question of which distro you prefer..i rather say which distro you are using now :-)...
I have used distro's from Mandrake(now called mandriva) to ubuntu 7.10... its actually nothing to compare about distro's except some cool GUI stuff. when i was newbie to linux i had installed mandrake to see some decorative desktop , from there i started to like linux . but now after hands on experience on linux you wouldn't care about GUI's ... you care just Linux. Till now i had no problem with my requirements about linux.... whatever flavor i installed its linux for me ... ofcourse there is pros and cons about various distro's but that doesn't actually impact to your basic requirements.
