Mandriva 2008 is out and ready to be used, this is an incredible and easy to use as Desktop Distribution.

It has support out of the box for ATI video cards, and therefore it is really easy to have compiz, metise, or other running in your PC.

Its package manager tool also performs well, you only need to run

rpmi [application]

in order to have it installed on your PC.

This is a step by step guide to install Adobe Flash player 9 on your Mandriva Spring 2007.

First thing you should do is to download the .tar.gz file of the latest version of Flash player.

Now it is possible to install Google software like picasa directly from repositories.

This is really good specially to stay with the latest versions of software using your normal application management tool.

I usually use in my Desktop at home Debian Etch (Stable), but as I also like Mandriva since I tested it, I wanted to install a dual boot system, with both Mandriva and Debian Etch, but I also wanted to have access to both file systems with the same permissions and even have the same /home partition for the two operating systems, so for this I needed to be sure to have the same user with the same UID and GUID in both systems.

You can access a remote file system securely using sshfs and fuse which is a command to mount a remote filesystem encrypted through ssh.

This way you will be able to access remote files as if they were on you machine, just remember that if the connection between the computers is slow, the access will also be pretty slow.

I have recently (3 weeks ago) discover Mandriva, I liked it from the first install, I even made my system Dual Boot (Mandriva and Etch).

Mandriva is the former Mandrake Linux, which joined with Conectiva and now is called Mandriva, its creator Gael Duval is not anymore in the company and he is now starting a new project called Ulteo, from which you can also have the Installationg screenshots.

This is my first time with Mandriva, I got the Mandriva DVD and bought a new Hard Disk to test it, I installed it on a PC with this characteristics.
